Budget Shepherd’s Pie

A hearty and budget-friendly shepherd’s pie featuring seasoned minced meat, mixed vegetables, and creamy mashed potato topping. Comfort food that feeds a family without breaking the bank.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground meat for 5-6 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and carrots and cook for 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and frozen peas. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Transfer to a baking dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Dot with butter.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the filling is bubbly and the potatoes are golden. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
